Local entrepreneurs, Esther and Andrew McMahon are hoping to reinvigorate the venue with their latest venture, Shoreline. Upon first entering Shoreline, it seems very little has been changed.
The building is still split into four sections: the bar, the library, the restaurant and the deck. Inside, pretty much all the fittings and fixtures remain.
In fact, the only noticeably difference is in the building’s signage. “The first owners did such a great job decorating and we were just conscious that people in Newport wanted their old pub back,” Andrew explained, “We’ve just come in, given it a deep clean and brought in some fresh faces and new ideas. The couple already owns successful businesses across the Tay in Dundee and run a Hospitality staffing business for events, so are well experienced in the industry.
Esther and Andrew have just launched new winter menus, a more casual menu for the bar and then the restaurant menu for upstairs, including seafood specials, and local, seasonal produce. There will also be a set Christmas menu running through December for larger bookings.
Esther explained, “We have a new chef and manager coming on board who both have a wealth of experience in high-end hospitality. They are excited to bring their own menus and ideas to develop Shoreline.
While both are clearly passionate about what they currently offer, Esther and Andrew are ready to adapt. As Andrew says, “That’s a benefit of being an independent. You can be fluid and adjust. We’ll listen to people and will give them what they want. We’ve expanded both the beer and wine selection and added in a range of cocktails.”
“We’re trying to make it the kind of place where you can come for a drink with your family a couple of times a week, but also for that special occasion as well. It is also our aim to create a unique venue for small weddings and private hire events” Esther adds.
