ML Photonic brings cutting edge optical innovation and new jobs to Fife

ML Photonic Ltd., a growing force in precision optical components and sub-systems has opened a cutting-edge facility in Dunfermline, Fife, marking a significant step in ML Corporation’s strategic expansion into the UK and Europe.

The acquisition of the former Scottish Water site at Pitreavie Business Park provides a strong operational base to serve customers throughout the UK, Europe and international markets.

Headquartered in Nanjing, China, with additional operations in Thailand, Germany, Israel, and the United States, ML Corporation is known for its high-end optical components, lenses and advanced integrated systems. Its’ technologies support sectors such as life sciences, medical devices, autonomous driving, biometrics, AR/VR, and inspection equipment.

Complimenting the parent company’s broader global footprint the Dunfermline facility will specialise in the production of high-end precision optics alongside R&D, engineering, and customer engagement and support. As an established global subsidiary, ML Photonic will ensure uninterrupted supply and production scaling through mirrored capabilities across the ML Group’s international facilities. This presence will strengthen collaboration with customers, supply chains, and innovation partners in Scotland and beyond further supporting the ML Corporation’s established Global Partner presence.

ML Photonic is working closely with Scottish Enterprise and Fife Council’s Economic Development team (InvestFife) to support its growth plans. The new Dunfermline site is expected to create 20 highly skilled roles initially, with plans to increase to 60 employees in the next five years, spanning engineering, optics, R&D, and operations.

The Dunfermline site spans 5.4 acres and features a 25,000 sq ft ultra-modern manufacturing facility, comprising a large-scale production area and a contemporary office suite. Recently upgraded, the facility is now equipped with the latest high precision manufacturing and advanced metrology systems to support the production of high-quality precision optics. It also includes a Class 10,000 cleanroom for the assembly and testing of electro-opto-mechanical modules. The Phase 2 expansion will introduce a dedicated thin film coating centre. The site benefits from excellent transport links, offering convenient access to both local and wider UK networks.
