Isle of Lewis music studio makes a bang

An independent music studio on the Isle of Lewis has successfully increased its offering after purchasing new musical equipment following support and advice from Business Gateway.

About the business

Wee Studio launched in 2008 and offers a range of services for budding musicians, including music recording, audio, and voice over records, editing, mixing and mastering, and documentary filming. The business is one of its kind in the local area, with professionally acoustic treated rooms and an excellent range of high-quality musical equipment.

I approached Business Gateway to expand my services to a wider customer base and they have already helped me to start to realise my ambitions. My adviser couldn’t have been more helpful and was always there to answer my queries regarding the funding process.

How Business Gateway has helped

Founder Keith Morrison began his business venture in a spare bedroom in Stornoway. A keen musician with a family active in the local music scene, Keith wanted to start a business that would offer the services and opportunities that were lacking when he first started out. Keith took the next step in his business journey when he moved into his own premises at Rigs Road in Stornoway.

Having successfully run the business for several years, Keith then looked to expand its offering into media production, and earlier this year purchased new, larger premises in Ness, Isle of Lewis.

Keith, now armed with the perfect location that allows for extended media producing capabilities, approached Business Gateway, Scotland’s national business advisory service, for help and advice on how to practically expand his offering.

Keith received 1:1 advice from a dedicated business adviser, as well as advice on funding. Through Business Gateway, he accessed a grant through the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Grant Scheme (CERGS), which allowed him to purchase additional music equipment required for Wee Studio’s new offering.

Since approaching Business Gateway, Wee Studio has successfully attracted a larger audience of both on and off-island clients and talent. The new musical equipment, and the new studio, also provides space for local musicians and filmmakers to hire, leading to job creation in the local area.

Keith Morrison, Founder, Wee Studio, said: “I am very passionate about music and enjoy seeing new artists emerge and showcase their talent, and the Isle of Lewis has so much potential.

“I approached Business Gateway to expand my services to a wider customer base and they have already helped me to start to realise my ambitions. My adviser couldn’t have been more helpful and was always there to answer my queries regarding the funding process.”
