Funding gives business protection during coronavirus

Faced with mounting bills and the thought of potentially having to lay off employees, Mark Paterson turned to Falkirk Council’s Business Gateway team for advice.

22nd May 2020

With the help of his adviser he realised his business, Gemini Supplies, would be eligible for a range of financial assistance, including the Scottish Government’s Business Support Fund.

Administered by Falkirk Council, the fund offers a range of grant support to help businesses deal with the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

After submitting his application, the Council’s Non-Domestic Rates Team asked for clarification on a few of his answers, and a week later the grant landed in his company’s bank account.

Alongside the Business Support Fund grant, a VAT deferral from HMRC and the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, Mark has been able to safeguard six jobs and pay suppliers all while his business remains closed due to lockdown.

He said: “Accessing the support has taken the stress out of operating my business, allowing me to pay suppliers and salaries on time. Without it my business would have struggled to survive. My focus now is on surviving the year and hopefully getting back on track in 2021.”
