About the business

Tronius, based in Dundee, is Scotland’s first business dedicated to providing EV charging points. They also provide support for clients to help them meet their electric vehicle, energy and CO2 targets.

Business Gateway has been a fantastic resource during a key period for Tronius. They helped us secure our new premises, which has already enabled our growth with our new mobile EV charging hub. They have also advised us on potential funding options which has been vital as we look towards achieving our future growth ambitions.

How Business Gateway has helped

Founders, Jamie Duffy and Seiki Payne worked with Business Gateway to secure their first premises at the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP) in Dundee. With this move, the business can now take advantage of the set-up which connects industry, academia, government and the local community, while also enjoying space to grow.

This has allowed them to expand their offering and develop the ‘Highlander Pod,’ a shipping container that they have developed into a prototype mobile EV charging hub.

Jamie and Seiki accessed regular 1:1 support from their dedicated business adviser, including guidance about funding from angel investors and the Michelin Loan Scheme, which they are in the process of applying for.

Additionally, advice on human resources has helped the pair as they look towards taking on up to 12 new employees as EV Charge Point installers, BDM, and an electrical engineer.

Jamie Duffy, Co-founder, Tronius said: “Business Gateway has been a fantastic resource during a key period for Tronius. They helped us secure our new premises which has already enabled our growth with our new mobile EV charging hub. They have also advised us on potential funding options which has been vital as we look towards achieving our future growth ambitions.

“We strive to work with communities when it comes to installing electric vehicle charging hubs. Our successful ‘Highlander pod’ prototype offers a route to that goal, as it helps businesses communities and those with mobility issues, feel less anxious about being unable to charge their vehicle.”
