About the business
Performer, conductor and orchestrator Ryan MacKenzie has performed internationally with such celebrated artists as Pixie Lott, Susan Boyle and Christina Bianco. Originally from Buckie, he has staged an annual concert, Let it Snow, in Elgin for several years. Responding to the popularity of the concert and passionate about bringing big music names to perform in Moray, Ryan established Forte Productions in 2019.
Ryan explains, “I was put in touch with Business Gateway through Roddy Burns, Chief Executive of Moray Council. He had been to see our annual Let it Snow concert in Elgin a few years ago and we chatted about the idea of expanding, so he put me in touch with Craig to discuss the business side of running these concerts and how to make them sustainable.
For a musician with zero business skills, initially starting up the company was way over my head. I don’t think it would have happened without Business Gateway’s knowledge and advice on how to get our crazy ideas off the ground and make them into a business.

What’s next?
Following Business Gateway support, Ryan has ambitious plans for Forte Productions. “Once we have our first few artists booked, the main priority for us is getting our outreach work off the ground, as that is where we can really make a difference in Moray. Hopefully we’ll be ready to kick it all off later this year.”
