Business Gateway support helps Stirling craft producer break the mould

A Stirling-based craft trade has accessed Business Gateway’s expert help to support the launch of Groshek Pottery, the only importers of world-renowned Polish pottery in Scotland.

17th March 2020

Launched in 2018 by Anna Higgins, Groshek (or groszek) Pottery means “polka dot” in Polish, which reflects the beautiful spotty designs showcased in its growing collection. The extensive range offers mugs, teapots, serving dishes and plates, to name but a few.

Anna Higgins, the owner of Groshek Pottery, approached Business Gateway for advice when she decided to grow the business from a hobby to her main income source. She accessed a suite of start-up support services including advice on company regulations and support with a business plan that would help her business grow.

In a bid to grow the business and reach more customers, Anna accessed DigitalBoost, Scotland’s national digital training programme, delivered by Business Gateway, for a free digital consultation and a range of online training sessions, to grow Groshek Pottery’s online presence and brand awareness.

Additionally, Business Gateway provided strategic marketing advice and export advice, as well as Brexit support, which will support the company’s future expansion plans.

As well as its online store, Groshek Pottery can be found at craft markets across Scotland, where Anna loves to share her passion for Polish pottery and tell the stories of its fascinating origins and history.

Anna Higgins, Founder, Groshek Pottery commented: “The support I received from Business Gateway exceeded my expectations. From a digital ‘health check’, through DigitalBoost and webinars to support with writing my business plan, the input I received has been fantastic.

“My business adviser also arranged a one-to-one consultation with an accountant through the ‘Meet the Expert’ service to help me make a decision about a specific aspect of my business. I am currently focusing on my marketing strategies and improving my social media presence and I look forward to continuing to work with Business Gateway to take my business to the next level”.

Simon Orr, Business Gateway Adviser, commented: “Through 1:1 advice, a comprehensive digital health check and tailored workshops, we’ve been able to equip Anna with the tools needed to develop her start-up and future business model. I very much look forward to seeing the business continue to grow from strength to strength.”

“In the current climate we have seen a lot of people finally make the dream move of making their hobby into their work and we will continue to work with these local businesses in the home sector.
