Beauty therapist relocates to Bute to start-up beauty salon

How Business Gateway has helped

Madara Grizlova MacArthur moved to the Isle of Bute from Latvia and now resides in Rothesay with her husband. Having completed her diploma in beauty therapy and nails, she set her sights on starting up her own beauty salon and got in touch with Business Gateway.   

Initially, Madara was introduced to ReciteMe, an accessibility tool on the Business Gateway website which translates all the content on the site. She then attended a specialist financial surgery to improve her understanding of the legalities of becoming self-employed in Scotland.    

With the full support of the Business Gateway start-up services, Madara received regular 1:1 guidance from her dedicated business adviser and built a strong business plan for Butey Boutique. She also developed her understanding of business premises legislation. With guidance from Business Gateway, she applied for business start-up funding to purchase equipment to set up her salon.
