Aberdeen local opens boutique gift shop after years of online success

An Aberdeen local has turned her online side hustle into a fully-fledged business after opening her own boutique gift shop in Cults.

10th January 2025

About the business

Braw Boutique, launched by husband-and-wife team, Minnie and Sandeep Singh, sells a range of clothing and gifts, including jewellery, books, and décor, many of which are locally produced by independent suppliers. Its partners are all women-owned small businesses.

Opening our very own shop has been a dream for a long time, and I’m so glad we were able to make it happen this year.   “I’ve always been crafty, but needed the practical support to make Braw Boutique a reality. We couldn’t have done it without Keith’s support, so we’re incredibly grateful.

How Business Gateway has helped

Braw Boutique opened in June this year after Minnie and Sandeep approached Business Gateway for support.

The husband-and-wife team was connected with local business adviser, Keith Smith, who provided advice on registering as an employer, as well as supporting on contracts and the development of an employment handbook.

Through Business Gateway, Minnie and Sandeep were provided with techniques to grow their customer base, including networking with other business owners in the area, and making the most of local publications and digital marketing.

Business Gateway also supported Sandeep and Minnie with a successful application to the Aberdeenshire Council Start-up Grant, allowing the pair to access funding to help pay for initial employment costs.

Braw Boutique has been given a very warm welcome from the community, with Minnie building a strong local customer base.
