The laboratory specialises in the testing for pathogens such as Legionella, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and more.
Forth Scientific Limited provides an unmatched level of client-focused testing services. The laboratory and its management system were designed to ensure customers receive the highest level of analytical and customer service possible, something which has been lacking within the Scottish environmental industry for many years.
The laboratory provides its customers with unmatched sample result turnaround times; thereby enabling their customers to rapidly address any water quality issues and in turn contributing positively to overall public health management.
The laboratory, to date, has received a 100 per cent pass mark in its external proficiency schemes provided by the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA). This is a significant indicator of how well the laboratory’s test methodologies are operating, the effectiveness of its quality management system and the competence of its excellent staff.
Clive Ovens started the business in 2022 and has been supported by Business Gateway Fife throughout his journey. His business adviser, Karen Cassells, has been able to secure a Business Efficiency Grant, enabling Clive to purchase a steam steriliser and reusable bottles in a move away from single use plastic bottles and is a significant step towards the company’s net zero targets.
Clive commented, “Business Gateway Fife support has made a significant impact to the business and its services. The provision of advice from our excellent Business Adviser throughout the company set-up stage and since trading has been invaluable where knowledge of certain aspects was previously lacking. Karen also assisted with securing a small award from the Integrated Employer Engagement Fund which has been put towards a deposit for an electric vehicle for the company, thereby improving our logistical services for sample collections throughout Scotland whilst minimising our carbon footprint.”
Karen added, “Clive’s background as a scientist and laboratory manager has given him the skills to develop the business rapidly. Already, he has three employees onsite with plans to recruit more. His passion to deliver a high-quality service stands him in good stead for his success in his future business development.”
