What to expect from this event
All residents and businesses in the UK who have telephone lines connected to the Public Switched Telephony Network, are going to need to make changes to the way they use their landlines. Telephone Exchanges are going to stop using the old equipment which will have a significant impact on how we all access and use telephony services in future. The move will be from analogue to digital lines which means we will be using our landlines with a router in the future. Ensuring that the required technology is compatible with the new fibre network will be key to switching to digital services and preparing for the copper switch-off.
Devices which may be affected (but are not limited to) are: Air Con Units, ATM, Bus Stops, CCTV, Chip & Pin, Door Entry, EV Charging, Fire Alarms, Franking Machines, Kiosks, Lifts, Medical Equipment, Printers, Road Signs, Smart Meters, Telecare Devices, Vending Machines
Businesses should think about all devices that plug into their wall sockets and if possible, contact the supplier of those devices and ask whether they are digitally compatible.
The R100 build programme in Orkney will result in a number of properties gaining access to fibre services. However, there will be a significant number of premises that are neither connected to a street cabinet for are receiving broadband services wirelessly. The R100 build programme in Orkney extends beyond the 2025 copper cut-off date.
The Teams link will be issued by email nearer the event, check junk or spam folders.
