Based in the heart of Stirling, business owner Amy Wright opened Black Lotus Barbers just over 1 year ago. Having worked in the typically male dominated profession for over 10 years wanted to open a shop of her own that offers a diverse, and inclusive atmosphere. Amy and her team of two employees pride themselves on offering quality haircuts, at affordable prices while maintaining a consistent high standard.

Whether it’s a beard tidy up, shave or re-style, Amy is proud to be a woman thriving in what was once known as a typically male dominated industry. As well as exceptional haircuts and treatments, the barbershop has expanded its offering by adding branded products and a clothing line to its growing brand.

As well as 1:1 support and advice, Business Gateway offered training sessions to the start-up firm, identified potential opportunities for growth and worked with Amy to support the launch of a brand-new website. Eye catching and fitting to their friendly brand, the business is now equipped with an online booking system to ensure booking and rebooking appointments is quick and efficient for clients.

With the number of female barbers on the rise, Amy takes a tremendous amount of pride in her work. Additionally, in a bid to give something back to the loyal customer base and local community, Black Lotus regularly hosts charity events in the shop and offers support and fundraising prizes for local sports clubs.

Black Lotus Barbers also accessed specialist digital webinars which have helped to develop key skills and given Amy the confidence to take her business to the next level.

Amy Wright, Founder and Owner of Black Lotus Barbers, said: “From 1:1 sessions to webinars, my adviser has always had my back and answered any questions or concerns I have, no matter how big or small.

“The pandemic has shown how vital online systems are for businesses, and my new website has set me up as we continue to adapt to the challenges posed by COVID-19. I look forward to continue working with Business Gateway – with their support I will continue to expand my knowledge and push myself and my business in a profession that I love.”

Simon Orr, Business Gateway adviser, said: “Business Gateway’s digital workshops and 1:1 advice on a range of business matters such as planning, funding, marketing, and website development have equipped Black Lotus Barbers with the necessary skills to thrive.

“I am confident the business is in a position to grow from strength to strength, as Amy and the team at Black Lotus Barbers continues to offer a quality service to the local community in Stirling.”
