South Lanarkshire Council Business Start Up Grant

Up to £4,000 is available to support a specific project, such as buying equipment, improving your marketing or developing skills. You must have been trading for less than 12 months, be based locally and work with Business Gateway. You’ll need to pay for your project first and then claim the grant.

How much you can get?

• up to 50% of eligible project costs
• minimum grant: £2,000
• maximum grant: £4,000

South Lanarkshire Council Business Growth Grant

The South Lanarkshire Business Growth Grant offers funding for 50% of eligible project costs (excluding VAT). Funding can support a range of growth‑focused activities, with maximum awards as follows:

Up to £20,000 for:

• capital expenditure
• infrastructure improvements

Up to £5,000 for:

• specialist consultancy
• staff training
• exhibition and trade show participation

South Lanarkshire Industrial Retrofit Grant

The South Lanarkshire Industrial Retrofit Grant supports the retrofit of existing industrial buildings, enabling local businesses to enhance energy efficiency, functionality and environmental performance.

You can get a grant of up to 50% of eligible project costs (VAT is not included).

• Minimum grant: £20,000
• Maximum grant: £50,000
• Minimum total project cost: £40,000
• Payment: after the project is finished and fully paid for
• Time limit: projects must be finished within 6 months

Business Start Up Fund

The Business Start Up Fund provides grant support to help new businesses in North Lanarkshire get up and running or grow in their early stages.

100% funding of up to £1,000 or £3,000 is available, depending on your business set-up, to support essential costs such as equipment, digital investment, website development and stock.

This funding is designed to help you start trading sooner and build a more sustainable business.

Business Growth Fund

The Business Growth Fund supports SMEs (with less than 250 employees) to grow and develop, with a focus on projects that increase turnover, create jobs, boost productivity, and strengthen digital and environmental performance.

Eligible projects are 50% grant-funded and businesses can apply for up to £20,000 in grant funding per grant application. A maximum of two grant applications can be submitted to the Fund within a 24-month timeframe. 

Eligible projects 

The types of projects that can be supported through the fund include: 

• Capital expenditure - up to £20,000
• Infrastructure improvement - up to £20,000
• Workforce or skills development - up to £5,000
• Exhibition support - up to £4,000

Town Centre Retail Business Fund

The Town Centre Retail Business Fund is a pilot grant scheme aimed at supporting new and existing SMEs (with fewer than 250 employees) located within North Lanarkshire’s town centres.

Applications should be developed and submitted jointly between landlord and tenant.

Businesses can apply for up to a maximum award amount of £20,000 per premise. Grant funding is only available for up to 50% of eligible net costs. This means applicants must secure the remaining 50% (or more) through private sector funding, plus VAT and delivery costs. Only one application per premise may be submitted over the scheme duration.
