Wind-surfer relocates from Chichester to build new life and business in Bute

Kilchattan Bay Kayaking is owned and managed by Mark Gunston and offers kayaks and stand-up paddleboards to hire in the shallow waters of Kilchattan Bay.

How Business Gateway has helped

Mark approached Business Gateway for support and utilised a host of start-up services. With the support of an adviser, Mark developed his business plan, successfully applied for a licence from Argyll and Bute Council and received guidance on funding options.    

Additionally, to grow awareness of his services he received specialist help through Business Gateway’s DigitalBoost programme to improve his digital literacy and to create a digital presence. This has led to him setting up a Facebook page for the business, now with over 200 followers, and successfully launching a website.

I approached Business Gateway for a way to bring water activities to the Kilchattan Bay. My adviser couldn’t have been more helpful, her support was crucial in bringing my idea to life for which I am extremely grateful. I really enjoyed my first summer season and look forward to welcoming more visitors to the island who want to enjoy the waters of Kilchattan Bay.”
