About the business
Campbell Scanlan is a designer specialising in bespoke kitchens and furniture, offering a completely tailored interior design service from initial concept and design through to manufacturing and installation.
Having grown up in a remote crofting community where he was immersed in island arts, crafts and cultural traditions, Campbell was employed in the construction of several new build timber homes. He furthered his design and craft skills at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee, where he earned a BSc Hons in Product Design.
Since establishing his business in 2018, Campbell has undertaken a diverse range of interior projects, including bespoke hand-built kitchens, expansive bookshelves, free-standing furniture, artists’ sculptures, large-scale timber constructions and shop fitting. He has also developed strong working relationships with private clients and architecture practices across the Outer Hebrides and wider UK.

How Business Gateway has helped
Looking to expand his operations with an upgraded workspace, Campbell approached Business Gateway for support.
As well as benefitting from one-to-one support from Business Gateway adviser, Derek Maclean, Campbell accessed grant funding support from the Outer Hebrides Digital Support Scheme (OHDSS), which is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and delivered by the Comhairle’s Business Gateway team.
The funding allowed Campbell to purchase digital items essential to creating an efficient and high-capacity design workspace, which has helped free up more time for workshop production.
