Equality, diversity and inclusion are shaped not only by organisational values but also by everyday decisions, workplace systems and legal responsibilities. This interactive two-hour workshop provides professionals with a practical and evidence-informed introduction to advancing EDI within organisations.
Participants will examine key concepts including equality, equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, intersectionality and unconscious bias. The workshop introduces the fundamentals of UK equality legislation, with attention to protected characteristics, discrimination, harassment, victimisation, reasonable adjustments and the Public Sector Equality Duty. It also considers recent developments in employers’ responsibilities for preventing workplace sexual harassment.
The workshop critically explores both the social justice and business cases for EDI, recognising the importance of dignity, rights and fair opportunity while avoiding exaggerated claims about the automatic organisational benefits of diversity.
Through practical scenarios, structured discussion and collaborative activities, participants will consider how bias and inequality can affect recruitment, progression and other professional decisions. They will assess organisational policies, equality impact assessment, workforce data, training and accountability, before developing a focused 30-day action that can support meaningful and sustainable change in their workplace.
