About the business

After a career in education, Angela Kershaw took the leap and became her own boss in 2017, at the age of 52. Drawing on the skills she amassed while working for Scottish colleges, Angela helps companies to develop their people and become more profitable. Her business, Milton Training, provides training and HR services to both SMEs and large organisations.

“At Milton Training, we have tailored our training and services to focus on business growth, performance management, people development and HR law,” Angela explains. “But we are also experts in sourcing funding for employers to allow their training budget to go that little bit further. This has really set us apart.”

How Business Gateway has helped

Angela built her business knowledge and confidence with the help of Business Gateway Inverclyde. As well as receiving one-to-one advice on her business plan, company regulations and marketing, she took advantage of our free workshops.

“I found the workshops very useful as this was my first self-employed venture and it was great that they were local,” says Angela. “I also used them as networking opportunities and one of the people I met at a workshop designed my website.”

What’s next?

Milton Training has forged links with the Business Development department at City of Glasgow College to allow access to a wider range of funding for clients. This partnership will continue for the foreseeable future.

Angela is also investing in online learning methods to complement the current training techniques she offers.

“I absolutely love being my own boss,” says Angela. “Every day presents a new challenge as I aim to grow my company into one that clients consider to be a support for them to grow and improve their own organisations.”
