Glasgow-based production company is one to watch

Silly Wee Films worked with Business Gateway to up their knowledge on funding, business planning and promoting their business.

About the business

Cops and Monsters, an award winning supernatural police procedural from Scotland, produced by Silly Wee Films, follows the Paranormal Investigation Team Scotland as they police and protect the supernatural community now part of every day life. Series one is currently on Amazon Prime in the UK and US.

Each episode of this supernatural police drama series is crowdfunded in order to pay for the cast, crew, editing, sound design, visual effects and music. The first nine episodes have starred actors including Debbie Moon (Wolfblood, BAFTA winner), Roland Moore (Doctors) and Philip Lawrence (Big Finish, EastEnders). Silly Wee Films have toured Cops and Monsters to Comic Cons around the UK with stacked out panels, merchandise tables and promos.

Silly Wee Films has also attracted several businesses to sponsor the show and the team are always on the look out for more sponsorship to help fund the remaining 5 episodes, whether that be through product placement or credits on the episodes, IMDb and Amazon Prime.

Business Gateway, and in particular Lynne Gorman, has been there for me from the start of our second series.

How Business Gateway has helped

Business Gateway advisor Lynne Gorman has provided Fraser with one-to-one support, including help with a business plan, company regulations and finance. She has also introduced Fraser to Scottish Development International and Scottish Enterprise Wider Innovation.

“Business Gateway have helped me with business advice, how we get the new episodes funded, promoting the show and finding support for funding to market the show at Comic Cons in the UK and around the world.”

What’s next?

“In our series finale we were joined by James Mackenzie in a guest star role as the father of our protagonist. James is well-known for playing Raven in the original CBBC series. We’re lining up a return for James in our second series if we reach our funding goal. Barbara Rafferty and Stephen Purdon from River City joined our second series cast and made their debut in an episode penned by Debbie Moon – a BAFTA winning writer and creator of award-winning drama Wolfblood for the BBC.”
