A Falkirk businessman has helped take the stress out of travelling with Holitries - a brand new company that delivers toiletries direct to holiday destinations.

Married dad-of-three Craig McLean, who has been helped by Business Gateway Falkirk, understands the cost and organisation involved in packing to fly abroad. With the worry of leaking bottles, cramming toiletries into plastic bags and limited baggage space and weight, Holitries will make packing and airport security more streamlined.

Holidaymakers flying to Spain this summer can create a bespoke shopping list by selecting their favourite brands from 22 categories and their package will be waiting for them when they arrive at their destination. Sending toiletries directly to hotels also reduces carbon footprints and helps the environment. The state-of-the-art concept will be piloted in Spain this summer but aims to spread across Europe. The brand will build upon strategic partnerships with travel companies and airlines. The online company www.holitries.com will make its first deliveries to people who arrive on holiday after July 1.

Craig, from Falkirk, said: “The idea came from many years travelling with kids on holiday, trying to pack and fit clothes and toiletries into suitcases. We also care very much about the environment and actively promoting 'space in the case' in order to reduce people’s carbon footprint. Not to mention saving them money along the way. “I turned to Business Gateway Falkirk last September for support with my business plan and for advice regarding the pitch I wanted to present to pre-seed venture capitalists. My adviser’s knowledge and expertise gave me invaluable guidance on how best to approach pitch meetings. Help with market research also allowed me to build the foundations of my marketing strategy.”

Andrea Bradley-Priest, Business Gateway, said: “Many great business ideas are inspired by personal experience, and for Craig trying to pack everything his family needed to take on holiday sparked a seed of an idea that has turned into Holitries. With our help, he was able to write a robust business plan and perfect his investor pitch. Further assistance with market research, through our information service, provided him with additional confidence that his business idea would appeal to a wide range of holidaymakers.”

Having teamed up with the former head of European operations for Avon, Jerzy Glinkowski, Craig, alongside the third co-founder, former Apprentice star, Raj Dhonota, aims to make Holitries the first - and best – supplier delivering direct to destination.

With 10m holidaymakers flocking to Spain each year, if only 10 per cent used this solution, their collective footprint would be reduced by 1950 tonnes - the equivalent of taking 542 cars off the road. In addition, excess baggage charges at airports range from £10 - £15 per kilogram. This solution will help to minimise travellers’ risk of paying these fees. Craig added: "We believe holidays should be relaxing and enjoyable and by using Holitries, we can alleviate some of the stress."
