Tasty expansion helps pie company get a bigger slice of the market

Trossachs pie company

Trossachs Pie and Pastry Company is an award-winning Scottish pie business.

Owned by David and Rachel Stewart, who bought Taste of the Trossachs cafe in Callander six years ago, the duo has spent the last two years diversifying and now make a range of quality, award-winning pies. Earlier this year, they opened a new production unit in Doune where their pies are being made and sold.

At the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards in January, the company's steak and haggis pie received the highest accolade - a Diamond award - with its steak and black pudding pie taking home gold and steak pie awarded bronze.

Business Gateway Stirling has been working with Trossachs Pie & Pastry Company assisting with the development of an action plan for growth and working with the owner on various areas of specialist support.

David said: “There are so many running costs associated with running a business, and the support we have received from Business Gateway Stirling has been invaluable. Just to pick up the phone and speak to Jason Clark, our Business Gateway adviser, has been hugely beneficial.”

Having prepared an action plan of support based around four key areas for the business - product audit, HR guidance, branding and website development - Jason also put the company forward for digital support through the DigitalBoost programme.

David added: “The advice has helped us to grow and diversify the business. We spoke to a branding expert who advised us about our messaging and overall brand. He designed our logos and business cards, which we launched at the Scottish Speciality Food Show in January, and they've helped to increase our profile. We also received guidance on Facebook, Instagram, and were provided with a guide about paid advertising so that we could target a specific demographic and target audience.”

Thanks to support from Business Gateway, the company has recently launched a new website, designed to promote their wholesale pie business online.

David said: "We now have a great new website. Certain people won’t look on Facebook, and we knew we needed to get a website for our customers to access. We still use our Trossachs Pie and Pastry Company Facebook page, but the recent algorithm change on Facebook means that having a website is more important than ever."
