A former sales manager who spent 25 years on the road decided to ditch the driving and set up his own sandwich shop in his local town.
Joe Scott racked up an average of 30,000 miles a year in his previous job, but after opening up Baguette & Co in West Blackhall Street, Greenock, he now travels just six minutes each morning.
Launching Baguette & Co with support from Business Gateway Inverclyde, Joe’s new venture is already gaining positive customer feedback and steadily growing. The shop offers homemade soups, paninis, baguettes, sandwiches, toasties, baked potatoes and salad boxes with fresh bread baked each morning on the premises.
Joe said: “Having covered an average of 30,000 miles per year for the last 25 years it’s a welcome change to leave my house and be at the shop in minutes. Having worked in customer facing roles it is easy for me to build a rapport with my customers so setting up a business in this industry felt like the natural move. I know that good customer service, coupled with good quality food and value will always be supported by the people of Inverclyde. “Business Gateway’s one-to-one support especially when it came to my business plan and possible funding routes was particularly helpful. It’s great to have a local free resource that offers expert advice for new and growing businesses.”
With plans to take on new employees to add to the three staff members that already work in the shop, Joe and his team have launched a delivery service adding to their offering.
Joe added: “It is an exciting time for us. My staff and I are focused on ensuring customer satisfaction, as we understand word of mouth is a great way for us to grow the business organically. I plan on taking on more staff and continue to grow our home delivery service which is available by calling us directly or ordering through Just Eat.”
Will Nisbet of Business Gateway Inverclyde said: “Joe is a new business owner who came to us for support and guidance when he decided to set up Baguette & Co. Our range of services allowed Joe to learn new skills and gain the vital knowledge needed when it comes to the everyday running of a business.”
